One template is the problem
Mail merge sends the same message with names swapped. That's fine for event invites, but editors ignore pitches that could have gone to anyone. If replies are low, a better merge tool won't fix it; a better pitch will.
A fair look at YAMM
YAMM
Mail merge for Gmail and Sheets
Where it's strong
- Free for very small sends.
- Simple: a sheet, a Gmail draft and a button.
- Tracks opens, clicks, replies and bounces in the sheet.
Where it falls short
- One template for the whole list, which is exactly what editors learn to ignore.
- Sends from your own Google account and its daily limits.
- No prospecting, contact finding or follow-up logic beyond basic merges.

Any outreach tool is only as good as two things it can't fix on its own: the list of posts you pitch and whether your email lands. Our listicle link building guide covers the first; the outreach deliverability guide covers the second. If you're new to the process, start with what AI agents can and can't do in link building.

Questions people ask
Is YAMM free?
Yes, up to 20 recipients a day. Paid plans are billed yearly and raise the limit to as many as 1,500 recipients a day on eligible Google Workspace accounts.
Does YAMM send follow-ups?
It can launch follow-up campaigns to people who didn't respond, filtered from your sheet.
What should I use for link building instead?
Something that helps with finding posts and writing per-post pitches. BacklinkGenie does both and sends from a mailbox on a separate domain.
