Pitching a roundup for a niche audience

The post lists tools for a specific audience, and your product has something that audience needs that a general tool doesn't. Below: the template, a filled-in example, why it works, common mistakes and the follow-up to send if there's no reply.

The template

Subject: For your {audience} tools roundup

Hi {first name},

Your roundup of {category} for {audience} gets the practical stuff right, like {specific point they make about that audience}.

{product} might be worth a look for that list. {Audience} tend to {specific need}, and {product} {how it handles that need}.

Filled-in example

The situation: A post titled "The best apps for nursing students in 2026" covers study and note-taking apps. It mentions that nursing students need to cite clinical guidelines in every assignment. The product is Margin, a fictional notes app for researchers.

Subject: For your nursing student apps roundup

Hi Grace,

Your roundup of apps for nursing students gets the practical stuff right, like how often students have to cite clinical guidelines in every assignment.

Margin might be worth a look for that list. Nursing students quote guidelines constantly, and Margin keeps the source and page number attached to every highlight, so citations don't have to be rebuilt later.

Thanks,

If there's no reply: the follow-up

Send once, four to seven days later, in the same thread. Add one new reason; don't repeat the pitch.

Subject: Re: For your {audience} tools roundup

Hi {first name},

One more detail for {audience} readers: {a plan, discount, or feature specific to that group}.

No problem if it's not a fit.

Thanks,
{your first name}

Getting the most from this template

A template saves time on structure, not on research. Every placeholder should become a detail only this editor would recognise: their name, the post, the section and why your product helps their readers. Send it from a properly authenticated outreach domain, one email per prospect, and stop after one or two follow-ups.

Small roundups are easier to get into than big "best X" lists. The step-by-step best-of list guide covers how to find them, and link building for startups explains why they matter early on. If the page is a curated list of links rather than a product roundup, use the resource page email.

Doing this for dozens of posts a week is where most outreach stalls. BacklinkGenie finds the posts, writes a pitch like the example above for each one, and sends it from a mailbox it manages for you once you approve. See how it works.

Questions people ask

How do I find niche roundups?

Search for "best {category} for {audience}" for each audience your product serves. The link prospecting search strings tool generates these queries from your audience list.

Are niche roundups worth it if traffic is lower?

Often yes. The readers match your product closely, the competition for spots is lower, and the links are highly relevant, which is what search engines value.

Should I have a page for that audience on my site?

It helps. A page explaining how your product serves nursing students, for example, gives the editor something specific to link to.
